Hey All,

This just dropped in my inbox and I thought you might be interested.

1. The demand for Cyber Warfare Operators (1B4's) has resulted in the AFSC

being 46% manned. The primary mitigation action to address the manning

shortfall is to increase 1B4 student throughput in initial skills training

at Keesler AFB. The 1B4 course has increased student capacity each year

since 2012 building to 150 active duty students scheduled for retraining in

FY15. While increasing 1B4 production is in-progress, realization of

trained 1B4s in the field is late to need for FY15. In an effort to provide

additional relief for stressed 1B4 manning, we are providing an opportunity

for well qualified personnel to be On-the-Job (OJT) retrained into the 1B4X1

career field.

2. OJT retraining is different from the normal Air Force retraining program

in that OJT retrained personnel are deemed to already have sufficient 1B4

foundational skills to warrant a waiver of the Cyber Warfare Operations

Apprentice course. Therefore, OJT retrained personnel do not attend the 1B4

tech school, but are converted to the 1B4 AFSC at the 3-skill level. We

anticipate only a small number of personnel having the skills required to be

accepted as a 1B4 under this program.

3. The target audience for this initiative is the active duty 3D community,

but personnel in any AFSC may apply. This program is not open to ANG or

AFRC personnel. Additionally, personnel already scheduled for retraining in

FY15 are not eligible to apply for this program.

4. Commanders must nominate individuals to the 1B4 Career Field Manager by

20 Mar 2015. The full criteria, nomination package contents, process

timelines and commander's nomination template are detailed in Tabs 1 and 2

of this announcement.

Here's some FAQ to help you answer any questions:

1) What grades are eligible to apply for 1B4 OJT Retraining?
SrA - MSgt with less than 17yrs TIS.

2) How do I take the EDPT or where can I find my score?
The EDPT can be taken at the base education center. The person that administers promotion testing is usually the one that proctors the EDPT. They will generate a letter with the raw score on it. If a person took it upon entry into the AF (like they were trying to be a computer programmer) then their score should be in their personnel record in MilPDS. They would have to ask a local
personnelist for a printout/screenshot of their score for submission.

3) I already have orders for my next assignment, can I get them cancelled an become a 1B4 under this program? No

4) I will soon deploy, can I apply?
Personnel can apply and we will work each deployment situation differently depending on timing. OJT Retraining will probably not cancel a deployment, but an individual can be converted
while deployed and then be moved to a 1B position after deployment.

5) Can I get a waiver for any of the criteria, such as EDPT score or not having my CompTIA Sec+ certification? No, these are minimum requirements of the AFSC which must be met by each 1B4 and will not be waived.

6) I just arrived overseas and my DEROS is not for a long time, can I apply?
Yes, you can apply and we will look at each case individually, but in general DEROS curtailments will not be granted so a member may not be accepted if there is not a local 1B4 position they can fill or of there is a
long period of time before a member is eligible to PCS to a 1B4 position.

Just to add something here. Where I currently work, I am very plugged into the future opportunities of this career field with second and third order effects for the greater 3D comm community.

If you are looking for something to get you out of bed everyday, I highly recommend considering taking this opportunity. This is almost comparable to an open door. The 1B4's are being heavily drawn into a CJCS-directed mission and team build. Some of you may be thinking "well, I'll get to see what the 624th is about or the 91st!" Nein, my friend. While a possibility, I speak of greater opportunities.

As with any major decision, I highly recommend you talk to your wife/husband/spouse/SO/family first. This will not affect just you but them as well. PCS opportunities are a bit constrained right now but there are worse off career fields. I've heard a mixed bag on the promotion chances but consider this: a VERY rapidly growing career field going this route to increase manpower means your chances of promotion to certain grades is probably going to be easier than other career fields out there. I cannot say with 100% certainty this will happen as it is the Air Force after all.

I've been a 3C0X1 (get off my lawn!) for almost 12 years. There is a lot I can't say here but if you are early in your 3D* career, give this a lot of thought. The 1B4's are going to be much more mission focused and employed than us. Those of you who have been around for a while know I'm talking about the stagnation of the 3D's. The training you will get and the things you will be a part of will be written in the PDG for the future kids to study, I promise.

If you want to PM me about anything, I will help out in any way I can.

Hey everyone,

I was hoping I could get some concrete answers from someone who has more inside knowledge then my CoC.

I'm a FTA who just sewed SrA on a few days ago. I signed a 6 year contract and I'm 30 months into it right now. So this brings me to my first question; is my retraining window waiverable/unimportant since 1B4 is undermanned?

Second is that I've only had 1 EPR and my second doesn't close out until Mar. 31st.. Do I NEED 3 EPR's or can I apply with my 1 EPR (it actually covers nearly a 2 year period)?

Those are my main questions for now that I haven't been able to get answers for so I'd really appreciate any help that you guys can provide.

PS: A little info on myself--I'm a 3d052 and my base is currently overmanned for my career field according to THMIS. I also just completed my CCAF in Information Systems and I also got my CCNA a little under a year ago. I've also taken a Linux+ class but I never took the test. Are all of these things that I should put in my package?

Thanks again for the help!

I would like to do this but I would have to retake my asvab to increase my general score. I kick A$$ in my 1x2 job but what happens if I take a new asvab and the score is below a 70 which is required for my current afsc?

Good evening,

Do you know if the 1B4 OJT program is still available? I'm a 3D0X2 SSgt looking to retrain into 1B4 but don't want to go through the tech school beings I already possess the necessary skills for the job. Do you know who I could contact to start the process of going from a 3D to a 1B4? Or do I need to submit a formal retraining package? Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Jonathan
